Meet the Maker: Funki Studios
We're consistently inspired by the incredible artisanal products New Zealand creatives put out into the world!
One of our favourite things about curating the Clarence & Co. gift range is getting to know the wonderful people and creative processes behind the art. We want you to know more about this too! So, here's the first blog in our new Meet the Maker series—introducing Tui from Funki Studios.
Who are you and what do you care about?
My name is Tui — I am a passionate, creative and powerful wahine who cares about living my authentic purpose.
What inspires you to design and make what you do at Funki Studios?
I am inspired by the freedom and power that comes with being your most fun + funki + authentic self. I create jewellery that allows you to do just that, be your most funki self.
Do you have a morning ritual you can’t start the day without?
My morning ritual is my recipe for the beginning of a good day — tidying my space, setting goals/intentions for the day + 15 minutes of practising be present — whether it be yoga or meditating.
Tell us another NZ small business or creator you’re loving right now?
My current fave small NZ biz is Crazy Dazey! They have such a groovy vibe, selling funky festival accessories + custom made cowboy hats. I’ll be stoking up on their goodies to complete my festival fits as soon as we are allowed to get our boogie on again!
If you could spend the day hanging out with anyone, who would it be and why?
I would love to spend the day with Frida Kahlo — she was a bold, unique and resilient wahine who dared to defy both society’s standards and the unfortunate circumstances of her life. She was also a fellow creative, who was known for her unconventional and uncompromising self-portraits.
